Hi, I’m Abbey Campbell.

I am a physical therapist in Erie, dedicated to helping both adults and children achieve their health and movement goals.

My Story

  • Hi! I’m Dr. Abbey Campbell, Physical Therapist and owner of APC Physical Therapy and Wellness. I grew up in the Midwest and swam competitively from the age of 5 through college. In my teen years, I suffered an overuse shoulder injury, which first introduced me to the physical therapy profession. Working with a physical therapist allowed me to continue what I loved to do, and was the first spark in my interest in becoming a physical therapist. Following a summer of observation, I was hooked. When I'm not in the clinic, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two kiddos.

FAQs

Do you take insurance?

We do not take insurance. In order to provide high-quality care, we are considered an out-of-network provider. This allows us the autonomy to provide one-to-one care, with longer treatment times, with the focus being on patient care. With this model, patients will have direct access to their therapist. Superbills are available upon request

What should I expect during my (adult) first therapy visit?

Evaluations are always 90 minutes. This allows your therapist to get a detailed background history, and listen to the patient’s concerns/questions/goals for therapy. Following questioning, a movement screen and special tests (if warranted) will be performed. Every evaluation also includes treatment (manual therapy, dry needling if warranted. Please dress in shorts/t-shirt or other loose clothing.

What should I expect during my child’s first therapy visit?

Depending on the age of your child- most evaluations will last 60-90 minutes. The session will begin with a thorough discussion about your child’s medical history, diagnosis, medications, current equipment use, and current or previous treatments. Following this discussion, an evaluation of gross motor development, reflexes, range of motion, and tone will be performed. Every evaluation will include treatment and exercises that you can start to perform with your child.

What is Functional Dry Needling?

Functional dry needling is a technique that uses solid, thin needles to penetrate the skin and go into the muscle to elicit a twitch response to promote healing and neuromuscular stability. It can be used to help increase range of motion, help healing following injury, decrease chronic pain and muscle tension.

What is DMI?

“Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a therapeutic technique used in physical and occupational therapy to treat children with motor delay by improving automatic postural responses and promoting progress towards developmental milestones. The goal of DMI is to provoke a specified active motor response from the child in response to defined dynamic exercises prescribed by the therapist. This comprehensive intervention incorporates current research on neurorehabilitation, technologies, and methodologies. DMI stimulates neuroplasticity to facilitate new neuronal connections and development of motor milestones. “ - From the DMI website
